Main Tests Performed at Neurology Departments

EMG (Electromyography): EMG is an examination method to diagnose diseases influencing peripheral nerves, determine the severity of dysfunctions or structural damage, monitor the disease process and evaluate the treatment result.

EEG (Electroencephalography): EEG is the process of transferring electrical processes produced by nerve cells in the brain in the form of brain waves on paper while awake and asleep.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance): It is an examination where powerful magnets, radio waves, and a computer are used to create detailed pictures of the body. The device used to diagnose neurological diseases or to monitor the treatment response is called MRI. One of the most frequently asked questions about MRI is whether it contains radiation or not. MRI uses magnets and radio waves, not x-rays, and therefore does not contain radiation.

CT (Computed Tomography): Computed tomography is a radiological method that creates a cross-sectional image of the examined area of the body with x-rays. Since x-ray is used as the method, it contains radiation. Therefore, its use in pregnant women is avoided. However, nowadays, with advanced new devices and technologies, images are obtained by minimizing the radiation dose as much as possible for patient safety.
