Bronchoscopy

A bronchoscope is a flexible, tube-like instrument less than one half inch (1 centimeter) wide with a light at the tip. This device is used for viewing the bronchi by entering the patient’s mouth or nose. The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis in the bronchoscopy unit. The patient is administered a slight sedation with medication and the procedure is started. The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. This procedure can be performed if there is a mass and staining in the lung and in cases of atelectasis and chronic coughing. Thanks to bronchoscopy, patient could be easily diagnosed. The complication rate is very low.

Bronchoscopy procedures are performed within the same day in the Chest Diseases Polyclinic of our hospital.
